This is not what I had planned to send you as a message on my last day but yesterday I had to put my Ruby Rednose (cat) to sleep.

To say that I am sad does not scratch the surface of my misery.

I am inconsolable.

I have cried for more than 24 hours. I have grieved for this 4kg creature like no other pet, not even for my mother.

Everyone I have told has cried. She had quite a number of people to whom she brought joy and pleasure.

No-one has loved me as much as this beloved companion.

My other cat, Purrsula, usually so boisterous and vocal, has barely moved from her favourite spot, and has barely spoken a word all day.

Not even the usual Sunday visit from Di has raised her spirits.

We are desolate.

There are those of you who will say: “That is why I don’t want pets. It hurts too much when they die.”

To you I say, you are missing out on a wonderful relationship whose happiness and high points far outlast and outweigh the sadness and grief of their passing.

I have so many photos of Ruby and so many beautiful memories that I will always carry with me.

Although she only spent the last five of her 17 and a half years with me, I know she has lived her best life.

She was happy, well cared for and even slept in my arms every night as she commanded.

Although there will be more cats in my life there will never be another a Ruby. She will always hold a special place in my heart.

———————————

On my last day as a member of the RSCP Team I would like to remind you that I written 207 emails to you since April 2020. This has been my attempt to keep all of us connected during COVID-19.

From the feedback I have received I know my attempt to make a difference has worked.

I am going to keep writing, but not every day and not specifically to RCSP. That is hard work!!

I wish you all good luck in your jobs and hope that life brings you everything you wish for.

My tune for today is “So Long Farewell” from The Sound of Music.

Stay Safe and Stay Happy.
