Today’s going to be a weird day.

I’m going into the office to return my chair and the laptop. (I haven’t used either for weeks!)

I’ll also be clearing my desk and handing in my access pass.

When I met with my Financial Adviser last week, he asked if I was sure that I was doing the right thing?

You see, I have enough money to live a careful life until the end of next year, and then I would need to find at least a part-time job to see me through to pension age.

I admit I did have a couple of very uncomfortable nights while my brain processed all the scenarios, and I know without a doubt that I am doing the right thing.

Funnily enough, a fantastic opportunity has landed in my lap in the last 24 hours.

It is still at the discussion stage but involves a high-level role in a new international publishing house.

I may live to eat yet!

I met with the three other senior decision-makers last night to discuss how we can make this venture flourish.

The proposed Publishing House already has an audience eager to use its services, and it is a matter of how fast we can get everything into place formally, not if it will happen.

The enterprise owner is someone who likes to move quickly and liked the proposal that we presented last night. It fits right into the mission and values that his organisation operates by.

The owner is now putting together some numbers and logistics because this will be an international publishing house based in Australia with a president in India.

I will have a paid role as the Editor in Chief, with a more junior editor to support my position at this time. Our initial goal is four books per year.

It’s an exciting opportunity that has come about through a combination of factors.

They are:

Mixing with the right people (people who are supportive and encouraging)

Having a willingness to serve (i.e. doing things for free)

No fear of new opportunities (taking a risk).

My ultimate goal still is my speaking career, and this editorial role would allow me to pursue that dream.

So, my point is that if you want something and plant the seeds and do small things that point you in the direction of your dreams, keeping your eyes open to the opportunities that very briefly and sometimes so subtly pass by, you may reach your goal!

Your tune for today is “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper.
